Personal Coaching

How does this work?

For a lot of people, life coaching is pretty new and, since there's no real standard for how it's structured, it can be a bit confusing. Is it like counseling? Does insurance cover it? Does it require a long term commitment? Is this expensive? These are all valid questions and there are likely many more, some of which you may have right now. Well, I'm going to attempt to cover some of the basics here as they pertain to my coaching so that you can feel comfortable with how I do business.

First of all, I do not bill insurance and, most insurance companies do not cover the cost of life coaching. You'd have to check with yours directly to find out if they are an exception.

Secondly, my coaching, while similar to counseling, has a much different focus than most therapy or counseling. I focus on getting you moving forward and spend very little time looking at your past.

Third, I actually attempt to get you to a point of not needing my help as soon as possible rather than encouraging you to be dependent on me for support and guidance. I believe in your ability to create and direct your own life and my job is to help you develop the natural skills you already have to do just that!

Finally, cost is always a factor and there is no standard and it's difficult even to compare different coach's pricing because of the varying structures they use. Even with me, price varies based on many factors. Those factors include number of sessions scheduled, frequency of sessions, follow up access and your ability to pay. You see, I make every effort to make it affordable for you based upon your needs and ability to pay.

All of these things affect the overall cost, but my baseline fee is $75 per hour. My standard session is about 75 minutes for which I charge $95. I offer packages, for example, that include 6 sessions for a price of $500 - a savings of $70. I also offer a free session for every 10 sessions purchased - a $95 bonus.

My standard is to meet once per week, but we can meet more frequently if your situation warrants or less if you can't afford it. Sessions can also be supplemented by email communication between sessions to spread out sessions over a longer time-frame and save on cost.

If cost really is an issue for you, I will work with you to develop a plan that works for your budget. My goal is never to turn anyone away because of their inability to pay provided they have a real desire to do the work and make the changes.

Sessions can be conducted either over the phone or in person. I often have clients who are not local and the phone is their only option, but local clients can utilyze this method as well. Additionally, I have online access to a video conferencing room where we can meet "face-to-face" as well. This is great, but it requires a fairly high speed connection in order to get it to work well.

As a means for you to get a feel for me and for me to evaluate your situation, I offer a free, no obligation consultation. This session can last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and will give each of us a chance to get to know whether this will be a good fit or not. Simply utilize this form to contact me and request your free session.

Finally, I offer a no fuss, 100% satisfied client guarantee! That's right, I guarantee that you will be completely satisfied with your experience! If you're not, I'll refund your money! Simple as that. There is a limit to this, however. This guarantee is good only for up to 6 sessions or 6 months, whichever comes first. That just protects me from someone doing sessions for a year or more and then wanting their money back - obviously you will know pretty quickly whether this is working for you or not.

Individual Coaching

Most of my coaching involves working with individuals. This is pretty straight forward. It's just you and me focusing on your growth and transformation in whatever area you decide you want to work on. There are occasional times when it might be beneficial to bring in another person, perhaps a spouse, partner or parent for a session or two to deal with particular issues or enlist their support. For the most part, however, these will be private sessions.

Couples Coaching

Recently, I've added couples coaching to my offerings. So many couples are wanting more out of their relationships than they're experiencing so far. Having been through a few relationships that fell short of my expectations in my past, I can easily relate to these experiences. I've realized some key ingredients that truly help create amazing relationships - just like the one I'm in right now!

At one time I had actually resigned myself to the idea that I'd probably never be good at relationships! Now, I find myself in a wonderful relationship with an amazing woman and I want to share what I've learned with other couples. I've realized that relationships don't have to be difficult and, contrary to what most people will tell you, you don't have to work at your relationship! Actually, if it feels like work, it's not working!

Family Coaching

The natural progression for me now is to evolve my practice to include family coaching. It's really all about relationships and the most impactful relationships in our lives are family relationships. Whether we're dealing with difficult toddlers, challenging teens or aging parents, these relationships are the most impactful in our lives. They contribute the most joy and the most stress.

I feel this is an area of my work that has the potential to offer the most benefit for others. I look back at my early years and I can see not only areas that I wish had been better, but also ways I was bolstered and supported that halped me get through the most challenging times in my life. I've been able to draw from the wisdom I gained as I've raised my own family and have managed, along with their mother, to raise 2 pretty amazing kids! At the very least, I haven't screwed them up by passing along my issues, and that says a lot.
